Technical Programs and Annual Activities

This page describes the PAC's intended program. Dates are published on the Events page only after they are confirmed. No organization is named here as a partner or sponsor.

Proposed annual program targets

The submitted activity plan proposes about 10 to 12 speaking sessions and panel discussions a year, two hackathons, and one conference, for a combined target of about 13 to 15 activities. These figures are subject to review and approval. They are not completed results.

  • 10–12

    Speaking sessions and panel discussions

A proposed pace of about two or three sessions each quarter.

  • 2

    Hackathons

Proposed as one hackathon about every six months.

  • 1

    Conference

Proposed once in the year, for research discussion and networking.

  • 13–15

    Activities in total

The combined proposed annual target across these activities.

Technology focus

The proposal identifies the following as topics of interest for future sessions. They are intended themes, not a claim that a series has already taken place.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Intended talks and workshops on practical and research developments in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

  • Responsible AI and AI Agents

Intended discussions on ethics, safety, governance and the responsible use of AI systems and agents.

  • Telecommunications and 5G/6G

Intended programs on communication systems, networks and next-generation telecommunications.

  • Internet of Things

Intended sessions on connected devices, sensing and systems that link the physical and digital world.

  • Cybersecurity

Intended briefings on security engineering for connected products, networks and organizations.

  • Automotive and Electric Vehicle Electronics

Intended programs connected with Michigan's automotive and electric-vehicle engineering community.

  • Semiconductors and Embedded Systems

Intended sessions on chips, embedded design and the electronics inside modern products.

  • Cloud Computing

Intended discussions on cloud platforms, distributed systems and how engineering teams use them.

  • Research and Emerging Technologies

Intended forums for sharing research perspectives and topics that are still developing.

Technical Talks and Panel Discussions

The PAC activity plan proposes speaking sessions and panel discussions as the regular form of technical engagement. A session may bring together a practitioner, a researcher or a panel to discuss a defined engineering topic.

These are intended formats. A topic listed here is an area of interest, not a record of a completed event and not evidence of a partnership.

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Responsible AI and AI agents
  • Telecommunications and 5G/6G
  • Cybersecurity
  • Embedded systems
  • Automotive and electric-vehicle electronics
  • Semiconductors
  • Cloud computing
  • Other relevant engineering and technology disciplines

Hackathons and Workshops

Hands-on workshops and hackathons are planned so participants can work on technical problems together, compare approaches and learn by building.

The activity plan proposes one hackathon about every six months, or two in a year. That cadence is a plan. It is not a schedule of confirmed dates, and registration is not open.

  • Collaborative technical problem-solving
  • Student participation, where a session is arranged for that purpose
  • Exploration of emerging technologies in a supervised learning setting

Annual Conference

The activity plan includes one conference a year as an intended opportunity for research discussion, technical presentations and professional networking.

No conference date, venue, call for papers, speaker list or registration link has been confirmed. Those details will be published on the Events page only after they are approved.

Student Engagement

Student and early-career participation is an intended part of the PAC's work. The aim is to make technical programs accessible to learners and to support mentoring where it can be arranged properly.

  • University and college outreach
  • Student participation in technical programs
  • Mentoring and early-career engagement
  • Student volunteer opportunities
  • Support for an IETE Students' Forum where that forum is applicable and formally arranged

Industry Collaboration

The PAC proposes to create occasions where professionals, academic staff and researchers can share practical knowledge. Industry interaction is an intended way to keep programs relevant.

No organization is listed here as a partner or sponsor. A name will be published only after a relationship has actually been approved.

Women in Engineering

Women in engineering is an intended program category for mentoring, technical learning and broader participation in engineering.

This is a local area of activity. It does not, by itself, imply a formal partnership with another organization.

Responsible AI and Research

Responsible AI and research are intended focus areas. Subjects may include AI ethics, safety, governance, research forums and emerging technologies.

These are topics the PAC plans to discuss. They are not services already being offered, and they are not a claim that a research program is underway.
